ACSR/ACSS

Galvanized and Bezinal® Steel Core Wire & Steel Core Strand For Overhead Power Transmission Conductor Cables

 

Bekaert is a global leader in the supply of steel strength cores used for mechanical reinforcement in the manufacture of ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) and ACSS (Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported) overhead power transmission conductor cables.

 

The primary function of the steel core is to mechanically support the ACSS conductor in span distances and sag. The annealed aluminum wires carry a small portion of the load.

 

Bekaert provides the ACSR/ACSS steel core in Single Wire or 7 & 19 Wire Strand in Galvanized or Bezinal® coatings.

 

The steel core is manufactured to ASTM B498, B500, B606, B802 and B803 and to Canadian Specifications CAN/CSA C60888 and C61089 at our plants in Van Buren, Arkansas and Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

 

Bekaert’s Bezinal® coating contains 95% zinc / 5% aluminum and is temperature resistant. Bezinal® also has better corrosion resistance than zinc, which improves after heating. The high strength ensures a safe and reliable operation of the conductor.
